“Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves.”

Leatrice Eiseman – Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute

Wedding Dress Trends – Spring 2016

What makes a wedding dress a wedding dress? The details! Tulle, embellishments, layering and adding dimension made the wedding dresses for this spring truly stand out. The designers took a spin on classic elements and made them look new and fresh. Ushering in timeless pieces and new styles that classic, romantic, and modern brides alike will adore.

Check out our favourites below!

3D-Floral Appliqués

Floral for spring really isn’t a new concept, nor are floral appliqués. However, these three-dimensional embellishments will bring a gown to life!

3D Floral

The neckline says a lot about the bride, conservative, daring, adventurous, elegant are just some of the words to describe the necklines of this season. The Keyhole gives you the elegance of a high neck and the daringness of a plunging neckline. The Bateau is one that closely follows the collarbone. It is a good choice for women who have well proportioned necks and heads, but who wish to present a more conservative appearance. The “Dipped” V gives one an adventurous stance, as it says I’m not innocent as with the subtle deep-V, or  I am daring as with the plunging deep-V.

Feather Finishes

Soft, fluttery and delicate or big, bold and dramatic? Oh the choices and the details in this embellishment brings feelings of nostalgic glamour.

A good overskirt provides versatility, a great one gives the illusion of layers!

The Pants Panache

The timeless two-piece suit! An iconic statement of cool and casual with sophistication. The bridal suit made it’s mark this season with tailored tuxedos, strapless jumpsuits, boho pants and ankle length skinny pants!

Bridal Hairstyles for the Afro Chic

For the past 2+ years I’ve been wearing my hair in it’s natural state, rocking it in all it’s kinky, curly and unprocessed glory!!! Wish I had it that way when I was getting married, but I’ll have it for the vow renewal.

We’re not officially looking at renewing our vows just yet, but doesn’t mean a girl can’t look for styles she likes and want to try! I’ve compiled a list of my favourites, feel free to post styles you like as well!

Wedding Websites

We absolutely love weddings!

Everyone knows this, but we do love other things, granted they may all be wedding related! One of the things we have come to love is the ability to build a website exclusively for your wedding! Wedding websites (also known as wedsites) are great for putting all the information that you can’t fit in your wedding invitations. It’s a great place to give guests your registry information, hotel and accommodation suggestions, directions, information about you and your wedding details as well as allowing guests to RSVP.

We were so in love with the idea that we, the amazing planners from Alicia Rubie Weddings, wanted our own Wedsite Builder and that we did. We got ourselves a very easy to use drag and drop interface that works for the savviest or the not so savvy user.

We also noticed that some photographers offered their clients a free site to showcase their pictures after the wedding, I guess it could work for your video(s) too. Our thoughts? What a great way to include the friends and family who were not able to attend!

Now this is what we have for your convenience:

  • A drag and drop interface that’s super easy to use!
  • If you get stumped contact your planner and she’ll assist you with your design
  • The interface comes with some cool widgets (twitter feeds, vimeo, google maps, jotform, instagram, etc.). Super cool tools to connect you with your guests
  • the interface allows you to add elements such as pictures, slide shows, YouTube video, contact form and HTML

Now for what’s really cool once you’re a client you are sent the link to the editor with your unique username and password. Once you have completed your design let us know as you have two options to choose from in terms of publishing:

  1. Free (for being a client): yourname.aliciarubie.com or
  2. Premium (client, friend, family, just about anyone – just contact us for pricing details) – http://www.your-name.com

Your site is live for a year and this allows you to incorporate the before and after the wedding details, you can even embed your photo website, just send us the url and we’ll hook it up for you!

The wedsite builder isn’t just for Alicia Rubie’s clients, but just about anyone who wants to build a website. Just create your own username and password and start building!

Happy Planning!

A Garden Affair

When Jo-Anne + Kolade envisioned what they wanted their wedding day to be like, they turned to wedding planner Keshîa of Alicia Rubie Weddings (formerly Stoosh Weddings) in order to make that a reality.

The enchanting Monticello Villa and Golf Resort in St. Ann, Jamaica, exudes such understated elegance and served as the venue for J+K’s lovely wedding. Arrangements from Plush Touch utilised roses, daisies and lilies in shades of blush and white with just a touch of gold for romance. Every moment is captured by one of our favourite photographers Jamaica Wedding Photos.

Marriage Promotion

Just taking another Blessed Sabbath to promote the institution of Marriage, the place where Love is practised all day everyday!!!

Know What’s Truly Important

Our biggest piece of advice for brides and grooms planning their wedding is to never forget that it is a celebration of the union between them, and not anyone else! You cannot make everyone happy, and trying to accommodate others will just make the whole process more daunting. This is your day; make it about you and how you want to celebrate you only get one shot at making your wedding day special and memorable.
